Fire Door Safety Event heats up!

Fire door safety event hosted by West Midlands Fire Service joins forces with Arnold Laver and industry experts to address growing concern of fire safety in UK buildings.

With David Oldfield, head of joinery at Arnold Laver and chairman of the BWF-CERTIFIRE Scheme, at the helm the aim of the Fire Safety day set out to inform those responsible for specifying, installing and maintaining passive fire protection measures such as fire doors.

The event saw trade professionals gather to learn about the latest developments in specification, certification and inspection methods and procedures. David Oldfield previously stated that he wanted to raise the profile of the scheme, particularly among small building firms and the merchant sector. “Coming from an Arnold Laver background really means that I do understand the problem from a number of different perspectives,” he said. The diversity and number of attendees is clear of the growing need for knowledge surrounding the subject of fire safety within the building trade sector.

Leading industry experts from Lorient, Vetrotech, WMFS and FDIS joined Hannah Mansell, Fire Door Safety Week spokesperson, at West Midlands Fire Service headquarters in Birmingham to deliver a range of compelling and informative seminars detailing the advancement in fire door installation and building regulations. The free CPD accredited event covered an array of subjects including doors and frames, door seals, glazing, ironmongery and intumescent, inspection and certification.

‘Very informative and great refresher on important fire related safety issues.’ Steve Hilditch, building control.

‘Information received from both speakers and hand-outs was comprehensive and useful. Very well organised and free!’ Guy Carrasco, carpenter/joiner.

”Useful information imparted by industry experts, very informative and of practical use.’ Steve Elliot, building control surveyor.

‘Detailed information regarding how doors react to fire, what ironmongery to use and how to check/inspect doors.’ Matt Gleeson, locksmith/carpenter.
